Collection Instructions

The specimen must be received in Austin Pathology within 24 hours of collection.

Please collect 1 x DEDICATED EDTA tube. This test can  share a tube with Factor V Leiden, if also requested. 

A citrate tube is not acceptable.

WHOLE BLOOD SPECIMEN - DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

Instructions for: Metropolitan & Regional Specimen Reception

  • Whole blood samples should be refrigerated upon processing to ensure sample stability.
  • All whole blood samples should be transported to the Heidelberg Laboratory at 4°C.
  • If this test is requested with Factor V Leiden, both tests do not need to be coded. APTG and AFVL will be added together.

  • Store whole blood samples in the FII & FV bucket in the walk-in fridge.
