Ordering Information	1,25 Dihydroxy Vitamin D is the active metabolite, but is not routinely used as a measure of Vitamin D deficiency as levels tend to be preserved even when 25 Vit D is low. It is most useful in the investigation of hypercalcaemia in suspected granulomatous disease, where the PTH production is suppressed, or for monitoring patients on Calcitriol (1,25 Vitamin D) therapy.

Laboratory Instructions	Instructions for: Metropolitan & Regional Laboratories Lithium heparin plasma is also an acceptable specimen. EDTA plasma may be acceptable (under exceptional circumstances) but consult Biochemistry staff as plasma should be separated within 8 hours, if not immediately. Grossly haemolysed or lipemic samples should be rejected.
