Ordering Information

Asymptomatic screening for Mycoplasma genitalium is not recommended. This assay is validated for use on endocervical swab specimens, vaginal swab specimens, male urethral swab specimens collected using the Abbott multi-specimen collection kit.

While urine samples are acceptable and provide optimal detection in males, vaginal samples offer greater sensitivity and are the preferred sample type for women.

Collection Instructions
  • A first stream urine of only 5-10 mLs in a sterile urine container should be collected to maximize detection sensitivity.
  • Patient must not urinate during the previous 2 hours.
  • Midstream urine samples are not suitable for this test.
