Ordering Information

There is no role for the measurement of reverse T3 (rT3) in the clinical assessment and management of thyroid disease. Reverse T3, or 3, 3’,5’-triiodothyronine is a metabolic product of the deiodination of thyroxine. It has a very short half-life of around 1 hour, and consequently has very labile serum levels. It is metabolically inactive.

Measurement of rT3 makes no additional contribution to assessment of thyroid status.
