The ABBOTT i-STAT is a handheld, portable point of care device that uses single use test cartridges to test whole blood from heparin tube, syringe or capillary tube. i-STAT testing allows patients to be assessed in regional centres before decisions can then be made about the optimal course of treatment for the patient.
